Frequently Asked Questions about video compression
How much can I reduce my video file size?
Typically 40–70% size reduction depending on the source video. Our tool re-encodes using H.264 with CRF 28 (good quality, smaller file). Original videos filmed on phones at high bitrates see the most reduction.
Will compression reduce video quality?
There is some quality reduction, but at CRF 28 the difference is minimal for most content. For social media sharing, email, and web use, the compressed video will look virtually identical.
What video formats can I compress?
MP4, MOV (QuickTime), and WebM formats are supported. The output is always an H.264 MP4 file, which is the most compatible format.
Why is video compression slow in the browser?
Video encoding is one of the most CPU-intensive tasks a computer can do. Running FFmpeg via WebAssembly in the browser is inherently slower than a native desktop app. For very large files (500MB+), consider using a desktop application.
Is my video safe? Will it be uploaded anywhere?
Your video never leaves your device. All compression happens in your browser using WebAssembly. We have zero access to your files.
